Who is Shernath Bapu?
Shernath Bapu carries forward the Nath lineage of Guru Gorakhnath at Triloknath Ashram in Bhavnath Taleti. People come to the ashram for guidance, for satsang and for a quiet place to be. The ashram is his home as much as a place that receives guests.
What is the Nath tradition?
It is a Shaiva yogic tradition passed from teacher to student. Its line runs from Matsyendranath to Gorakhnath, who is closely tied to the beginnings of Hatha Yoga, and its great masters are counted as the nine Naths, the Navnath. Discipline, direct experience and a balanced life matter more in it than ceremony. A teaching story from the tradition is retold in Matsyendranath and Gorakhnath.
Why is Girnar linked to Guru Gorakhnath?
Because the highest peak of the range, around 1,117 metres, is called the Gorakhnath peak, and a shrine near the top is tied to his sadhana. In Nath lore the mountain is associated with the Navnath and the 84 Siddhas. Pilgrims reach the peak after the Ambaji temple, a little over 5,000 steps from the base.
What is the ashram like?
Quiet and plain. Rooms are clean and simple, the day starts early, and mornings tend to move slowly: a walk toward Bhavnath Mahadev, time for puja, long stretches of silence before the crowds arrive. It is not a hotel and does not try to be.
Who can stay here?
Devotees, pilgrims on the Girnar circuit, families, elders and other travellers who want a modest, well-kept room. Because details change with the season and festival calendar, please phone the office before you travel and confirm what is available.
Why stay at Bhavnath Taleti rather than in town?
Everything the climb needs starts here: the stairway, the lower ropeway station, the Bhavnath Mahadev temple and Mrigi Kund, and the start of the Lili Parikrama. Damodar Kund is about 2 km away. Sleeping at the base means no early drive in the dark. See the ropeway guide and Damodar Kund.
How should I plan my visit?
Pick your season (month-by-month guide), choose how far you intend to climb, and ring the office early if you are coming in a festival week. If you are travelling with parents or small children, read the plan for elders and children.
